“Art is the lie that makes us realize the truth” – Pablo Picasso
Unfettered by the restrictions the art world sees as being the accepted and readily ‘recognisable’ singular vein a particular artist takes, Robin’s work covers many mediums and styles. Depending on the story she wants to tell, or the mood she wishes to create Robin’s work flits from photo-realism, to impressionism to abstract with hints of cubism, to collage and sculpture, the style and chosen medium occasionally combined in a single work.
The environment, life and an inner subtle understanding of the connection between them are always evident. Colour and form too have a special meaning and Robin regularly juxtaposes these to create an inner depth to her work.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, she has lived in many countries.
Her exhibiting career began while still in primary school via numerous inter-school art competitions and exhibitions for which Robin received a number of awards.
From race horses, yachts, land and seascapes, portraits or abstract pieces and commercial work, there is not much Robin has not covered at some point in her creative career. Her work is recognized by the National Registry of Australian Art and Artists and she has had numerous exhibitions in a number of countries (see exhibition / award history). A Phuket resident for over 2 decades, she is related to (but not influenced by,) Edith Florence Bullen, a well-known South African visual artist.
