David Ardley

All of these paintings reflect my appreciation of our exquisite planet and the environment in which I live. 

Having grown up by the sea and learning to swim and surf at an early age, I cannot remember a time when I was not drawn to – and hypnotized by – the transparent effect of light through water. As an artist, I have always sought to capture this translucent moment.  These works also exemplify the natural world – as I like to imagine it – free of human interference, pure, pristine and inspiring!

These paintings – on hand polished aluminium - embody all the aspects of what I love - combining the abstract quality of light, a meditative realism, and the pure joy of fusing colors and materials to create a beautiful visual experience.

Artists Statement

These paintings reflect my love and appreciation of our exquisite planet.  All of my work is created on solid, pure aluminium, which is hand polished, thoroughly cleaned, sanded/ground, and then layers of the highest quality Mussini translucent resin oil paints are applied to achieve the desired result.  The finished painting has a very durable 2-pac polyurethane finish on it that is easily cleaned with a soft cloth, or paper towel, and a bit of window cleaner if desired.  Good lighting, from above, greatly enhances the 3-dimensional aspect of this artwork!
