ARTIST BIO

Anthony Ross (Tony to all and sundry) came to painting rather late in life actually.

He was well into his 50's when he first saw a young street artist doing "Science Fiction" styled paintings with nothing more than some spray cans, pot lids, pages torn from old magazines, sport socks and other seemingly unrelated bric-a-brac. Rather taken with such an innovative approach to the creative arts he decided to try it out for himself.

Tony has since  worked extensively in this rather curious medium and has extended the techniques learned to include landscapes, portraiture, contemporary abstraction and some highly innovative surrealist imagery. He now works exclusively with aerosol spraycans and is delighted he has yet to find any limitations in doing so.

While spray can art is generally instantly associated with graffiti, Tony is very critical of the practice and considers it a debasement of what could and should be a legitimate and respected medium for artistic pursuit.
